Time: 8:30pm. Admission: £10/5. Age restrictions: All Ages. Address: Bond Street South. Venue phone: 0845 094 5588. It’s a Man’s World is a new project by Grammy-Nominated Jazz Singer and Songwriter Becki Biggins. Inspired by blues and gospel music (arriving at gospel-tinged jazz pop) Becki decided to pair up with Hammond maestro John-Paul Gard to bring old songs to new audiences; material is inspired, written and made famous by men, with songs by Billy Joel, Glen Campbell, Elvis and Frank Sinatra, as well as fitting originals by Becki herself. Becki is a respected songwriter, having co-written three US albums with writer/producer Paul Hardcastle (19, The Wizard), all of which went to No.1 in the US Jazz Charts. Her own compositions for this project showcase her unique take on the relationships of both herself and others; You Should Be Married By Now, with its boogaloo beat, is a prime example of both her witty humour and novel take on the subject of tying the knot, while You Can’t Be Too Happy is a Norah Jones-esque country/gospel word-to-the-wise. This performance will be the very first time that a Bristol audience has heard the band’s new material; it’s a night not to be missed and promises to showcase some exciting new music from home-grown musicians. Hi Becki,

I’ve listened to you from the Paul Hardcastle Jazzmasters VI, OMG! I love you.You have a fantastic voice! I went in search of material on you and there is not much out there where I can get my hands on it. Are you touring anywhere near Portland,Oregon?

Hi there Mirna,
Thank you ever so much for taking the time to get in touch. I’m really pleased you like Jazzmasters VI, and I think you might also like Hardcastle V and Hardcastle VI, both of which I wrote songs for and sang on. I’ve also got another jazz album out, which is available here, and I’m working on a new collection of original songs. It’s not ready yet, but I’ve added you to my mailing list (I hope that’s ok) so you’ll get all the news as it happens. And I’m making lots of videos of my progress, so you’ll see those too.
Sadly I don’t have any plans to come to Portland yet, but I really hope to – I’ve heard it’s beautiful.
Take care, and thanks again,
Becki x

There is a lovely venue in Shoreham by Sea called the Ropetackle which I think would be an ideal venue for you and you could introduce yourself to the people on the south coast. Best wishes, Sue Bernard, mother in law to Nancy le Nezet.
